Piloting an aircraft is a complex and demanding task that requires skill, training, and focus. To ensure a safe and successful flight, pilots rely on a variety of tools and techniques, including advanced technology and rigorous pre-flight checklists. However, for many pilots, prayer is also an important part of their pre-flight routine. Whether seeking guidance and protection from a higher power, or simply finding a moment of peace and clarity before takeoff, many pilots turn to prayer as a way to center themselves and prepare for the challenges ahead. The act of praying can provide a sense of comfort and confidence, helping pilots to stay calm and focused during even the most stressful situations. In this way, pilot prayer is not just a religious ritual, but a vital part of aviation safety and a testament to the power of faith in our daily lives.
Please read the prayers below which will provide guidance for Pilot Prayer. May God Bless You!
Pilot Prayer 1
O Lord,
Help me to fly with skill and diligence , to follow procedure and to keep those I carry safe. Alert me to difficulties and dangers, so that I have time to respond and pray.
Amen.
Pilot Prayer 2
Lord Jesus,
Be at his side, His Saviour and friend. Speak to him and remain close. Be beneath him, as he flies at such heights and with danger near. Hold him, with angels wings and keep him safe. Be behind him, watch over his back. When he is vulnerable, come be his guard. Be ahead of him, guiding his instincts, his decisions. Fill his heart with hope and vision to see clearly. Be above him, reveal to him heavens gaze. Come lift his eyes at times of stress to your kingdom ways. O Lord, be all around him. Come encompass him with you comfort, protection and care.
Amen.
Pilot Prayer 3
Oh controller,
Who sits in tower
Hallowed be thy sector.
Thy traffic come, thy instructions be done
On the ground as they are in the air.
Give us this day our radar vectors,
And forgive us our TCA incursions
As we forgive those who cut us off on final.
And lead us not into adverse weather,
But deliver us our clearances.
Amen.
Pilot Prayer 4
Oh God,
Supreme ruler of the Universe and Master of the destinies of men, hear us thy sons who have chosen; for their adventurous ways, the infinite vastness of the skies. Lend us thy sword so that we may valiantly help fight thy battles against the evils on earth.
Endow us with clear vision so that we may not be blinded by the glitters of earthly glories. And let the breath of thy winds be upon our wings, blended with the thunder of our engines drown out man’s selfish clamor from the earth below.
Teach us the real meaning of self-sacrifice and the unfailing love and devotion to thee and to our country so that fighting spirit shall burn the seeds of cowardice and warm our hearts with bravery when we go to battles.
Guide our flights and bless our wings with thy devine hands so that when the battle for thy cause are over, we may fly back to our love ones.
And when it is time for Thy wish to end our wondrous way to the skies, take us to the glory of Thy domain in heaven far above, where our earthly wings have failed to fly us.
Let us die gallantly without fear, hatred nor misgivings but with the clear and simple knowing that we have given our best to thee, our country and our people.
Our prayer this day – His hand extends to welcome home these two gallant airforce Huey pilots. May this day be a day of praise as their souls reach into the clouds.
Thank you for this incredible world, thank you for your spirit amongst us.
All these for the glory on earth and in heaven, a small portion of thy eternal kingdom.
Amen.
Pilot Prayer 5
Lord of Sea and Earth and Air,
Listen to the Pilot’s prayer—
Send him wind that’s steady and strong,
Grant that his engine sings the song
Of flawless tone, by which he knows
It shall not fail him where he goes;
Landing, gliding, in curve, half-roll—
Grant him, O Lord, a full control,
That he may learn in heights of Heaven
The rapture altitude has given,
That he shall know the joy they feel
Who ride Thy realms on Birds of Steel.
Pilot Prayer 6
Heavenly Father,
Thank you that I have the privilege of flying aeroplanes. Thank you that I can take to the skies, see earth become small and fall away beneath me. O Lord, help me to fly with skill and diligence, to follow procedure and to keep those I carry safe. Alert me to difficulties and dangers, so that I have time to respond and pray.
And as I take to the skies, come lift my heart too. May I always give thanks for the goodness in my life. As the earth blurs away beneath me, come give me your heart for it. Please inspire my mind to see everything through your eyes. And may my prayers be free, dynamic and effective from this perspective! Lord, lead me closer to you each time I pilot this plane.
Amen.
Pilot Prayer 7
Oh God,
I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air,
Up, up the long delirious burning blue.
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew;
And while with silent uplifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
Amen.
