Aviators have two traditional patrons. Our Lady of Loreto was named patroness of aviators in 1920, because of the tradition that the Holy House of Nazareth was carried through the air by angels to Loreto, Italy. St Joseph of Cupertino, a seventeenth-century Franciscan said to rise into the air during prayer, is also invoked by pilots and air travellers.

Lord, you made the sky and everything in it.
As I take off today, keep this aircraft sound,
my mind sharp and my hands steady.
Give me good judgment when the weather or the unexpected turns against me.
Watch over my passengers, my crew and everyone on the ground.
Bring us safely to our destination.
Our Lady of Loreto, pray for us.

Lord, today is my first solo (or my checkride).
Calm my nerves and help me remember my training.
Let me fly safely and well.
Amen.
For Airline Crews
Lord, bless pilots and flight attendants on long hours and early mornings.
Keep them rested, alert and safe, and bring them home to their families.
