Bus Driver Prayer

A school bus driver is often the first adult a child sees in the morning and the last one at school in the afternoon. They know which kid is having a hard week, which one forgot breakfast, and which two shouldn’t sit together. City bus drivers carry the elderly to appointments, workers to early shifts, and students home late at night. It’s a job of quiet responsibility, and it doesn’t get much thanks.

2 minute read

Drivers have two traditional patrons: St Christopher, who carried travellers across a river, and St Frances of Rome, named patron of motorists in 1925 because, the story goes, her guardian angel lit the road ahead of her at night.

Historical Context

Patron of drivers: St Frances of Rome, 9 March
Patron of travellers: St Christopher, 25 July
Scripture: “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in,” Psalm 121:8

A Bus Driver’s Prayer

Lord, as I start this route, ride with me.
Keep my eyes alert, my hands steady and my mind on the road.
Protect every passenger who steps on this bus,
every pedestrian and every car around me.
Give me patience in traffic and kindness with people.
Bring us all safely to where we’re going.
St Christopher, pray for us.
Amen.

A School Bus Driver’s Prayer

Lord, these children are someone’s whole world.
Help me get every one of them safely to school and home again.
Let my bus be a safe and kind place.
Help me notice the child who’s struggling.
Amen.

For Patience with Passengers

Lord, some passengers are hard today.
Keep me calm, fair and safe.
Amen.

A Prayer of Thanks for Bus Drivers

Lord, thank you for the drivers who get us where we need to go.
Bless them, protect them and give them rest.
Amen.

Best Times for This Prayer

Scripture Connection

“The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” — Psalm 121:8

A bus route is all going out and coming in, over and over. Psalm 121 promises God is watching every stop.
