“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
Psalms 16:8
There are so many things in life that attract our attention. It’s like when you’re driving down the road and you see a big flashy billboard, it’s natural to take your eyes off the road and look, even if just for a second. But when there are so many constant distractions, we can end up barely watching the road at all.
Our lives have a purpose and a meaning. God has ordained us to live as ambassadors and witnesses for Christ, to spread the gospel and build his kingdom here on earth. But along the way, there are countless other things that distract us from that purpose. This prayer from King David is a strong reminder and encouragement to keep our focus on God.
He says that with his eyes on the Lord, with God at his right hand, he will never be shaken. When your eyes are on the road, you’re ready for any obstacle. You can see what’s coming and adjust. You can react appropriately to sudden changes. You can see where you’re going and what you need to do to get there. Keep your eyes on God. Keep your focus on him, and you will not be shaken.
Prayer
Father,
Help me to keep my eyes on you. Stay at my right hand and guide me through this life according to your will and purpose.
