Daily Devotional – ‭‭Matthew 11:28 – February 24, 2024

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

As someone with a lot of stress, who often feels weary and burdened, what a relief it is to hear these words.

Are you tired? Do you have stress and anxiety? Are you worried? Are you sick, suffering, or heartbroken? Is work getting you down? Have you lost a loved one recently? Are you struggling with guilt or shame? Are you simply worn out?

If yes, this verse is for you today.

Listen and reflect on these words from Jesus. “Come to me…I will give you rest.”

Christ doesn’t promise to make all the stresses and worries and pain of the world disappear, but he offers us a hope that can give us peace and rest despite all of these things. Today, I want to remind you of that hope and that peace and that rest.

Whatever it is that you’re struggling with today, Jesus has the power and the victory over that struggle. Whatever pain you’re dealing with today, Jesus has made a way for you to have eternal life with God, where there will be no pain. If you feel unloved or worthless, Jesus loved you enough and considered you worthy of dying for. He did that for you.

Come to him today. Whether that be in tears or in pain or in celebration, come to Jesus. Draw near to him in prayer, through Scripture, or in song. Worship and give thanks to him. Focus your mind on him and his sacrifice, the hope of eternal life, and the promise that He has indeed overcome the world, and he is on your side.

Come to him, and he will give you rest.

Prayer:

Father,
Thank you for the simple promise of rest. In a busy and anxious and stressful and painful world, we desperately need the rest that you have offered us. Help us to come near to you, and come near to us as well. Take our burdens from our shoulders and give us your easy yoke.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
