Daily Devotional – Mark 16:15-16 – September 29, 2023

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:15-16

Evangelism is critical to Christianity. It’s spreading the Gospel by public teaching, preaching, or by private personal witness. Evangelize is making a commitment, a commitment to intentionally share the Gospel, the good news and teaching of Jesus with those around you. As Jesus was preparing to leave Earth in his ascension to Heaven, he gave a great commission: to make disciples by leading people to Christ. The commission did not end here, but Jesus was explicit in mentioning that these new believers should be marked in baptism.

With this said, how often do you find yourself sharing the Good News with those around you? Do you go about your day intentionally sharing the Gospel with your friends and family? Or to take it further, how often do you find yourself heeding Jesus’ commission to share the Gospel – be it with a stranger that serves you your morning coffee, the bus driver, or even the homeless man that you pass by every morning on your way to work? If these questions are hard for you to answer, maybe it is time to do some self-reflection to better understand what is holding you back from evangelizing. Is it a fear that you won’t know what to say? Fear that you won’t have the answers to questions a non-believer may ask you? If that’s the case, I urge you to remember that as a believer the Holy Spirit dwells in you and will assist you. Be confident that God is going to reward you and go with you throughout your evangelism efforts – He won’t leave you high and dry!

Make Heaven crowded. Share the good news of the Gospel with every one you encounter, whether friend or foe. Our greatest mission should be to fill Heaven’s gates with as many believers as we can.

Prayer:

Lord,
Please help me to hold on tightly to the great commission Jesus has given me. Whatever it is that may hold me back, whether it be fear or time, etc. God, I pray that you help me to take my task of evangelism more seriously. Be with me and let your Holy Spirit prepare me for my conversations and let me start today to fill Heaven with as many believers as I can during my time on Earth.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
