Daily Devotional – 1 Corinthians 1:19 – May 15, 2026

“For it is written,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.”” – 1 Corinthians 1:19

When I read this verse, I envision a grand courtroom where the wise and learned stand confidently, only to find their arguments and insights crumbling before God’s sovereign wisdom.

1 Corinthians 1:19 reminds us that God’s understanding far surpasses human intellect and reasoning. In our quest for knowledge and insight, we may sometimes rely too heavily on our own wisdom and the wisdom of the world. This verse calls us to trust in God’s plans, recognizing that He can dismantle our human perceptions and reveal the truth in profound ways.

As Christians, we can apply this truth by seeking divine wisdom through prayer and scripture rather than solely depending on our understanding or the opinions of others. In humility, we should approach life’s challenges knowing that God’s ways are higher than ours, and we must be open to His guidance in all decisions.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, help me to surrender my own wisdom and seek Your guidance in every situation I face. May I trust in Your understanding and lean on Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
