Daily Devotional – Mark 2:27 – May 14, 2026

“He said to them,
“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” – Mark 2:27

When I read this verse, I picture Jesus reminding His followers that rest and renewal are gifts meant for our benefit, rather than burdensome rules to follow. Mark 2:27 reminds us that the Sabbath was created for our well-being, emphasizing God’s desire for us to find rest and restoration. This verse challenges us to shift our perspective about the Sabbath from obligation to opportunity, encouraging us to embrace the day as a time for spiritual rejuvenation and connection with God.

As Christians, we can apply this verse by intentionally setting aside time for rest and reflection in our busy lives. This could mean dedicating Sunday or another day to worship, family, and personal reflection, allowing ourselves to step back from the demands of everyday life. By doing so, we not only honor the spirit of the Sabbath but also cultivate a deeper relationship with God and rejuvenate our spirits for the week ahead.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of rest and for creating the Sabbath for our benefit. Help us to embrace this time to reconnect with You and recharge our spirits. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
