November 24 Prayer – Hearts Made New

O Lord God,
Give us new hearts, teach us a new way on earth,
so that through your commandments all people may act in accordance with your Word and may become one.
Only you can do this, working through your promised Holy Spirit,
and you will do it in order that the earth may become a paradise,
a heavenly kingdom pleasing to you.
Let your words be written in our hearts, and help us to fulfill your commandments in our daily life.
Only by carrying out your commandments may we foolish, sinful people be made perfect,
our sins be forgiven, and everything become right and good in your sight.
Stay with us, Lord God, our Father. Help us in everything.
Let something new, something pleasing to you, soon come into our time.
Put your commandments into our hearts, that peace may be restored to the glory of your name.
Amen.

November 24 Prayer – Thanksgiving Grace

Dear Lord,
Thank You for holidays.
Thank you for times when we can gather with loved ones and celebrate all of Your blessings.
We pray that this Thanksgiving is a time of great gratitude and love for those around us.
Whether relationships are strong or rocky,
we are grateful for the opportunity to invest in them and nurture them.
Thank You for the witnessing opportunities that many of us will have with family or friends.
Help us not to live in a spirit of fear, but of power and confidence in You.
May our words of the gospel be pleasing like honey to them.
Would you open their eyes to see the truth and that it will set them free?
Jesus, would you please help us to live out the fruits of the Spirit and not to live by our flesh?
We pray that we would be a light even in situations that arise
which are uncomfortable or hurtful towards our Christian faith in You.
Amen.

Devotional Reflection

November 24th arrives when autumn’s transformation is nearly complete—trees stand largely bare, harvest has been gathered, and nature prepares for winter’s dormancy. This transitional moment invites spiritual reflection on themes of gratitude for abundance received while acknowledging our need for continued divine renewal and transformation. The prayers for this day embrace this dual perspective—thankfulness for blessings while seeking hearts made new through divine guidance.

The first prayer centers on spiritual transformation, asking God to “give us new hearts” and teach us “a new way on earth.” It acknowledges that genuine renewal—both personal and societal—comes not through human effort alone but through divine initiative “working through your promised Holy Spirit.” Like the seasonal cycle that depends on forces beyond human control to bring renewal after dormancy, this prayer recognizes our dependence on God’s transformative power. It seeks the internalization of divine commands—”Let your words be written in our hearts”—so that external compliance becomes internal motivation. The prayer’s vision extends beyond individual transformation to collective renewal where “all people may act in accordance with your Word and may become one,” reflecting the Thanksgiving ideal of diverse individuals united in common gratitude and purpose.

The second prayer embraces Thanksgiving’s themes of gratitude and familial gathering while acknowledging that holiday celebrations often bring challenges alongside blessings. It expresses thanks for “times when we can gather with loved ones” while realistically noting that relationships may be “strong or rocky.” This prayer seeks divine grace to navigate complex family dynamics with spiritual authenticity, asking for help “not to live in a spirit of fear, but of power and confidence.” Like nature that stands in authentic simplicity after shedding its colorful adornment, this prayer seeks to live out “the fruits of the Spirit” rather than superficial harmony that masks deeper tensions. It acknowledges that holiday gatherings may bring “situations that arise which are uncomfortable or hurtful” while seeking to remain “a light” even in challenging circumstances.
