Daily Devotional – ‭‭Psalm 29:3-4 – December 31, 2023

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.” Psalm 29:3-4

For children, and even some adults, thunderstorms can be quite frightening. Perhaps you can recall the first severe thunderstorm you experienced as a child. The thunder so loud it shakes the walks, and lightening so bright the sky lights up. Maybe the fear of the storm scared you enough to hide under your covers, or to run to your parents for a comforting embrace. However, as children grow up, their fear of thunderstorms most always resolves. The more storms they face, the more adjusted they become. Storms don’t seem as scary anymore, because their perspective has changed. Just as children adjust to thunderstorms, adults can learn to change their perspective on the storms of life.

The storms you face in your life have the opportunity to accelerate or decelerate your spiritual walk. For example, in times of trial do you allow fear to drive you under the covers, afraid to embrace whatever obstacle stands in your way? Or do you stand strong, and run to the comforting embrace of your Father? How you react to the storms you face, determines whether or not you will sink or swim per say.

The voice of the Lord is powerful, and he will embrace you in all of life’s storms. In troubling times do you ignore everything around you? Do you hide under the covers and act like nothing is happening? Or do you cry out to God for help and run to him for comfort? Your response to life’s difficulties or the storms you face, reveal how much you trust in God and lean on him during challenges. God is above all water, and every difficulty you may face. There is no storm too big for God.

Prayer:

Father, you are all majestic. You are all powerful and are above all things. God help me to change my perspective whenever the storms of life arise. Help to lean on you.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
