Daily Devotional – Psalm 145:18-20 – March 26, 2024

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. The Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.” Psalm 145:18-20

At some point or other, life will seem to fall apart. Though unavoidable challenges or circumstances, there will be times where life does not go according to plan. When life inevitably brings such challenges, how do you as a Christian respond?

Throughout the Old and New Testament there are many men and women who were thrown life’s curveballs. A great example is David. King David dealt with many hardships in his life, such as the loss of a close friend and the loss of a child. He dealt with the difficult times of Saul trying to kill him, and having to flee for his life. However, despite the challenges or the curveballs life threw at him, David always turned to God for peace.

David called on God frequently, and is the author of many psalms showing just how much he relied on God. God heard David’s cries and saved him of the many challenges he faced, and helped provide him peace, comfort, and healing when he needed it. The psalms that he authored show just how easily David was able to come to God in times of trouble, and times or rejoicing. The relationship David built with God is a great reflection of how frequently he meditated. When life throws you a curveball, do you turn to God in meditation? Do you take time to dwell in his presence, refocusing your attention and worry on God? If there is anything to be learned from David, it is the art of meditation.

Prayer:

Lord help me learn to come before you in meditation. Help me to use life’s curveballs as an opportunity to come spend time in your presence, and help me to learn from David’s example.
