Daily Devotional – Jeremiah 32:17 – July 12, 2023

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
Jeremiah 32:17

Nothing is too hard for our God. I love this verse. It’s humbling to be reminded just how powerful our God is. Jeremiah reflects that he created the heavens and the earth with just the outstretching of his arm. The power that entails is so much more that we could ever even imagine. Yet, God fights for us, loves us, and redeems us instead of controlling and enslaving us.

Think of the most powerful world leaders to have ever walked the earth. Think about the greatest empires and countries to ever exist. Every single one required some level of control over its citizens and subjects. God, on the other hand, is the one true Sovereign Lord, yet he has given us our own choices to make, our own life to live. He allows us all to live with free will. Of course, there are ways in which he would prefer for us to use it, but he doesn’t force us. That’s because there’s a difference between God and any human leader – he loves us unconditionally. He loves us and he wants us to love him, not be forced into his servitude. Love can only truly exist in freedom, so he give it to us freely.

The all-powerful God of all creation loves us that much. And not only that much, but enough so that when we fail to meet his expectations and remove ourselves from communion with him, he made a way to bridge the gap. He sacrificed his own son to bring us back to him, despite our failures and imperfections. This mighty God literally changed the very rules of life and death to give us a chance at eternity with him. He has and would still move mountains for us and so much more.

Nothing is too hard for him. More importantly, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for us.

Sovereign Lord,
You are great and powerful and you are worthy of my praise. Thank you for loving me and using your great power to redeem me from my sin and brokenness. I will love and praise you as long as I live, and for eternity after this life is over.
In Jesus’ Name,
