““Woe to you who desire the day of Yahweh!
Why do you long for the day of Yahweh?
It is darkness,
and not light.” – Amos 5:18
When I read this verse, I envision a crowd eagerly anticipating a grand event, unaware that its arrival may bring unexpected trials rather than the joy they expect.
Amos 5:18 warns us against longing for the day of the Lord without understanding its true nature. The prophet challenges the notion that the coming of Yahweh is solely a time of joy and blessing; rather, it also heralds judgment and accountability for our actions. As Christians, we should approach the day of the Lord with a heart of repentance and readiness, recognizing that our relationship with Him must be genuine and reflective of His will.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us to prepare our hearts for Your coming by living in a way that honors You today. Give us wisdom to discern the true nature of Your day and the grace to walk in Your light. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
