“Now Eli was ninety-eight years old. His eyes were set, so that he could not see.” – 1 Samuel 4:15
When I read this verse, I picture a frail old man, once full of life and vigor, now unable to see the world around him.
1 Samuel 4:15 reminds us of the physical decline that often accompanies old age, yet it also speaks to a deeper spiritual blindness that can occur at any age. Eli, despite his years of service, failed to see the corruption around him and the impending consequences of his actions. As Christians, we must remain vigilant, ensuring that our spiritual vision is clear and that we recognize the importance of guiding the next generation in faith.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us to keep our spiritual eyes open and to discern Your truth in our lives. May we lead with wisdom and integrity, always seeking to reflect Your light to those around us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
