Daily Devotional – 1 Samuel 14:27 – June 25, 2026

“But Jonathan didn’t hear when his father commanded the people with the oath. Therefore he put out the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes brightened.” – 1 Samuel 14:27

1 minute read

When I read this verse, I picture Jonathan, weary from battle, unexpectedly tasting the sweetness of honey, which brings a spark of life back into his weary spirit.

1 Samuel 14:27 reminds us that sometimes, we may unknowingly miss out on the blessings around us due to the commands and expectations placed upon us. Jonathan’s experience illustrates how a moment of joy and refreshment can bring clarity and brightness to our lives. As Christians, we can apply this by seeking out the sweetness God provides, even amidst challenging circumstances, and allowing it to renew our spirits and energize us for His work.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for the moments of sweetness and joy You provide in our lives, even when we are unaware. Help us to be attentive to Your blessings and to share that light with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
