“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:57
Do you ever feel like you’re on a losing streak? I don’t know about you, but there are times when I just feel like I cannot win. No matter what I do or try, it seems like I just keep coming up on the losing side of things. It could be financial, it could be career, it could be relationships, or it could be all of the above and more. Life just goes that way sometimes. It can get very depressing after a while, and can really start to affect your life. There is a solution, though.
If we look to this verse, Paul gives great advice and encouragement for us in those “losing streaks.” First, give thanks to God. A posture of gratitude is always good for you. Gratefulness has the power to change your entire mindset. It can completely alter how you see your life and your circumstances. Instead of focusing on the things that are going wrong, we can focus on the blessings that God has provided and see the brighter side of things. We focus less on our losses and more on the good things that God does for us. When you feel like you can’t win for losing, be grateful. You’ll see a lot more wins than you thought.
Second, we can be encouraged that no matter what “losses” we’re facing in our life, we have the ultimate and lasting victory through Jesus Christ. In the end, every trial, every loss, every setback are all completely insignificant compared to the victory that we share in Jesus. Christ’s victory over sin and death was won on your behalf, for you to reap the benefit of without having to pay the price or fight in the battle. Christ has already won the victory for you. And in the end, it’s the only victory that truly matters.
When you feel like you’re in a losing streak, remember the victory that you have in Christ. Remember that at the end of it all, you will be joined with Christ in that victory, with eternal life in heaven. The glory of what is to come makes every “loss” in this life pale in comparison. That’s something that we can have hope in. That’s something to be grateful for. And that’s something we can always count as a win, no matter what other losing we’ve done.
Prayer:
Father,
Thank you for the victory you’ve given us through Jesus. Thank you for giving us victory through your grace and love, even though we could never fight the fight or win the battle on our own.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
