“for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.” – Mark 6:20
When I read this verse, I imagine the tension in Herod’s heart as he listens to John the Baptist, torn between fear and fascination.
Mark 6:20 reminds us that even those in positions of power can recognize the truth and righteousness in others. Herod’s conflicted feelings demonstrate that the voice of God can penetrate the hardest of hearts, leading to moments of reflection and change. As Christians, we should strive to be like John, living righteously and speaking truthfully, so that our lives may inspire others to seek God and reflect on their own paths.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to live a life that reflects Your righteousness and holiness, so that I may inspire those around me to seek You. May my words and actions draw others closer to Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
