“For the Son of Man goes, even as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”” – Mark 14:21
When I read this verse, I can’t help but feel the weight of betrayal and the deep sorrow it brings, not just to the one who is betrayed, but also to the betrayer.
Mark 14:21 reflects the tragic reality of betrayal in the context of Jesus’ impending sacrifice. Here, Jesus acknowledges the fulfillment of prophecy while expressing the grave consequences for the one who betrays Him. For Christians, this serves as a powerful reminder to guard our hearts against actions that could harm our relationship with Jesus and others, prompting us to choose loyalty and love over betrayal and selfishness.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to remain faithful and true in my relationships, both with You and others. May I always choose the path of love, avoiding the temptations of betrayal. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
