Daily Devotional – ‭‭Job‬ ‭19:25‬ – December 29, 2023

“I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭19:25‬ ‭

The story of Job is a powerful reminder of the reality of suffering and the sovereignty of God. For most people, the most moving part of the story is Job’s steadfast faith and his refusal to give up his trust in God. In case you don’t know the story, Job was a wealthy man with a big family and a happy life. He was a faithful and holy man. Satan asked God to allow him to test Job, to afflict him and see if his faith remained. Through the loss of all of his possessions, his family, and his health, he remained faithful.

This verse is a particularly poignant example of Job’s faith. Every time I read it, this verse inspires hope and a sense of strength. In the face of so much adversity, this was Job’s mindset. “I know that my redeemer lives.” Despite everything, Job still believes that God is his redeemer, his hope, and his savior. He expressed faith that he still lives, that he is still good, and that he has not forgotten him.

The second part of the verse is equally important. “In the end he will stand on the earth.” Job acknowledges that God is sovereign, that he alone is eternal, and that in the end he will rule over it all. There is power in that faith. There is hope in that truth. We know that God is alive, that he is our redeemer, and that he is sovereign over all.

Prayer:

Father,
I know that you are alive and at work. I know that you alone are my hope and my redeemer. Thank you for the example of Job’s faith. Help me to stand as strongly in your truth as he did in the face of adversity.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
