“They are like a palm tree, of turned work,
and don’t speak.
They must be carried,
because they can’t move.
Don’t be afraid of them;
for they can’t do evil,
neither is it in them to do good.”” – Jeremiah 10:5
When I read this verse, I envision the contrast between the lifeless idols described and the vibrant, living faith we have in God.
Jeremiah 10:5 reminds us that idols, though crafted with care, are powerless and require our support rather than offering us any strength or guidance. This passage encourages Christians to evaluate what we place our trust in and to ensure that our faith is rooted in the living God, who is both good and sovereign. As we encounter distractions and false hopes in our lives, let us remember to lean on God alone, who is capable of great things and brings true peace.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to recognize and turn away from anything that distracts me from my faith in You. May I place my trust in Your power and goodness alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
