Daily Devotional – Genesis 28:15 – September 3, 2023

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Genesis 28:15

Time and time again Scripture is filled with the promise that God is with his people always, and the Scripture above reiterates this concept. God speaks to Jacob in Genesis chapter 28 through a vivid dream. As Jacob laid down to rest on his journey, he dreamed of a ladder that reached to Heaven. At the top of the ladder angels were ascending and descending, and God was at the very top. The Lord spoke to Jacob and informed him that his offspring would inherit the very land on which he was sleeping. Lastly, God reiterated that wherever Jacob was to go, God would not leave him.

The Lord is with us always. However, at times we as Christians may feel distant from Him. Whether it is circumstances that draw us away from Him, or just a feeling that God is not with us, it is important to recognize that these are simply feelings and are not truth. The Bible is full of God’s promises to be with His people and to never distance himself from us. James 4:8 states, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” As God reassured Jacob in the scripture above, we can have the same assurance in the present day. The Lord will be with us wherever we go and whatever we face. In this life, everything we have can be lost, but we will never be separated from our God.

Prayer:

Father,
Thank you for never leaving us. Lord, whenever Satan attempts to make us feel distant, please remind us of your truth: that you will never draw away from us.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
