“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7

In the world today there are many things that we as Christians could fear. Whether it is illness, war, or the uncertainty of the future, there is and will always be something that could cause us to be afraid. There will be times in this life where fear will not subside on its own, and as a Christian you must be willing to surrender your fear to God. If you do not choose to surrender your fears, your insecurities, your uncertainty to God, you are choosing to allow your fear to control your faith.

Think of your day-to-day life and the things you have “faith” in. Do you have faith that your heart will continue to pump and give you life? Or do you spend your days worrying that your heart will give out on you? Do you trust that your car will get you from point A to point B? Do you put your trust in the payroll department, and that they will have your check ready for payday? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I’d ask you to reflect on just how much bigger, how much more trustworthy God is over all of these things. If you can easily trust your body, your car, or another person, why then do you allow fear to rule over your faith in God?

God is able to do more than we can ever imagine, and he gives us a spirit not of fear, but of power. By trusting in God despite scary circumstances, you are growing in your faith and in your relationship with God. When we have faith in something, we act on it. We trust it. By having faith in God, we act on it when we trust in him. We are not acting in fear, but instead in complete trust that our almighty God is bigger than our fear.

Prayer:

Almighty God,
Thank you for allowing me to boldly approach your throne. Father, at times I feel overwhelmed and so afraid because of the circumstances in life. Lord, I pray you give me a spirit of power and one that trusts in you. Help me to choose my faith in you over my worldly fears.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
