“When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.” – 2 Chronicles 11:1
When I read this verse, I picture the tension in the air as Rehoboam stands before his assembled warriors, ready to defend his claim to the throne.
2 Chronicles 11:1 reminds us of the struggles we face in leadership and decision-making, particularly when confronted with division and conflict. Rehoboam’s instinct was to rally an army to fight for his kingdom, but it serves as a reminder that sometimes our battles are not physical but spiritual. As Christians, we are called to seek unity and peace, rather than conflict, and to rely on God’s wisdom instead of our own strength in difficult situations.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to seek Your guidance in times of conflict and to strive for peace in my relationships. May I rely on Your strength rather than my own when facing challenges. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
