“Why then do you harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, didn’t they let the people go, and they departed?” – 1 Samuel 6:6
When I read this verse, I envision the stubbornness of Pharaoh as he witnessed God’s mighty works yet chose to resist His will.
1 Samuel 6:6 reminds us of the dangers of hardening our hearts in the face of God’s undeniable presence and power. Just as the Egyptians continued to oppose God despite the signs and wonders, we too can become resistant to His guidance in our lives. We must remain open and receptive to His work, allowing His love and grace to transform us rather than becoming callous in our hearts.
Christians can apply this verse by regularly reflecting on how they respond to God’s prompts and lessons. Are we allowing past experiences or fears to harden our hearts? Instead, we should strive to embrace a heart of humility, seeking God’s direction and being willing to change when He calls us to do so.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to keep my heart soft and open to Your leading. May I never resist Your work in my life but instead embrace Your guidance with faith and obedience. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
