“Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”” – 1 Samuel 15:12
When I read this verse, I imagine the early morning light breaking over the horizon as Samuel rises with purpose, only to find Saul consumed by self-glory.
1 Samuel 15:12 highlights Saul’s misguided priorities as he erects a monument for himself rather than honoring God. This moment serves as a poignant reminder that our achievements can quickly become sources of pride if we forget to give credit where it’s due. As Christians, we are called to live humbly, recognizing that our successes are ultimately by God’s grace and meant to point others back to Him.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to remain humble in my successes and to always give You the glory. May my life be a testament to Your greatness, rather than my own. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
