““For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”” – Jeremiah 4:22
When I read this verse, I envision a child playing with a toy in a way that only leads to chaos, unaware of the danger that surrounds them. Jeremiah 4:22 highlights the tragic reality of a people who, despite their cleverness in wrongdoing, lack the knowledge and wisdom to pursue goodness. This serves as a powerful reminder for us to seek a deeper relationship with God, for it is through knowing Him that we gain true understanding and the ability to discern right from wrong.
As Christians, we can apply this verse by committing ourselves to study God’s Word and engage in prayer, seeking wisdom and understanding from Him daily. We should also strive to cultivate an environment of learning within our communities, sharing knowledge of God’s goodness and encouraging one another to live out His teachings in our lives.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us to grow in our knowledge of You and to seek understanding in all things. May we be diligent in pursuing goodness and reflecting Your love in our actions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
