“Also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; so Asa cut down her image, ground it into dust, and burned it at the brook Kidron.” – 2 Chronicles 15:16
When I read this verse, I picture a king standing resolutely, determined to uphold the purity of worship in his kingdom, even when it meant confronting his own mother.
2 Chronicles 15:16 reflects Asa’s boldness in removing the idolatrous practices that had taken root, even within his own family. This act serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing our devotion to God above all else, even familial ties. As Christians, we are called to evaluate our own lives for anything that may hinder our relationship with God, and to courageously remove those obstacles, even if they are deeply ingrained.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, grant us the courage to confront and remove anything in our lives that stands between us and our devotion to You. Help us to be bold in our faith and unwavering in our commitment to follow You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
