“He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may give an answer to these people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’”” – 2 Chronicles 10:9
When I read this verse, I imagine a young leader burdened by the weight of his father’s legacy, seeking wisdom from his advisors on how to respond to the cries for relief.
**2 Chronicles 10:9** speaks to the tension between authority and the needs of the people. Rehoboam faces a pivotal moment where he must decide whether to listen to the grievances of the people or uphold the traditions of his father. As Christians, we are often faced with similar choices when leading or influencing others; we must weigh the counsel we receive and strive to be compassionate while making decisions that affect those around us.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom to listen to the voices around us and discern the right path forward. Help us to balance authority with compassion as we seek to serve others faithfully. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
