“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, LORD, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.”
1 Chronicles 29:11
King David spent many years preparing and assembling the vision for a House of God with much joy. As David collected the finest supplies of gold, silver and other delicacies for the Temple, he was quick to lead the Israelites in prayers of thanksgiving and praise for God’s provisions. Even though King David would not go on to see the fruit of his dedicated labor of preparation, his son, King Solomon, would go on to build the Temple.
The Scripture above still highlights the reason for David’s actions and words – praise. David set a wonderful example for the Israelites as he turned the attention towards the Lord’s provision for the temple. The Lord our God has created everything, and everything in Heaven and Earth belongs to him. We have been entrusted with many gifts, possessions, relationships, time, etc. during our lives on Earth, and it is our responsibility to be good stewards of what God has provided for us. For His is the Kingdom, and He is exalted above all.
As we go about our day-to-day lives, how quick are you to turn to God with your praises for his provision? Have you taken time to appreciate that all that you have is due Him? Rather than getting caught up in the things you lack in your life, take time to come to God and praise him for everything. Praise him for clean water, modern day conveniences such as electricity and access to food. Praise him for your relationships with your family, spouse, children, and friends. Praise him for the gift of life and the opportunity to see another day. Most of all, give thanks to God that the eternal temple is waiting for you in His Kingdom.
Prayer:
Lord,
Let us be like David. Let us be quick to turn to you with thanksgiving and praise as we marvel at your splendor and majesty.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
